When people speak about automation taking away jobs, this is why I don't relate. Because these are the people I work with.
Imagine how little it takes to automate a crossing like this. How little it takes for the train to signal arrival and departure, or for the crossing to detect a train approaching, or for a signaling system to oversee it all.
But nope. Not happening. There is no dearth of technology solutions, both from the public and private sector. You think people haven't solved this over and over again in the last fifty years? And the money spent on this would easily be recovered from the efficiencies gained. Trains would arrive on time. Accidents wouldn't happen.
Even if you want to continue to keep the crossing manned and not save on wages, there is no reason to not automate.

In contrast, absolutely everything I learnt by doing in childhood, on computers and with other tools, still stays with me. Both the understanding of underlying concepts, and the muscle memory of how to use tools.

Product development is always a team effort. Except this little guy. It was developed independently by me in 2016, as we went through a lean phase and had zero people in development.
It's two years old now, which by electronics standards is long in the tooth. We have newer models now. Prettier. Faster. And yet its still going strong, rough edges and all 🙂

Anyway. Anyone wanna come with us? Flights to the North East are subsidised. And there's a cheap helicopter ride from Gauhati to where these chaps are.

I'm not entirely sure why these teachers need to be sent to Singapore for training. There are some excellent initiatives within India, such as the IAAT program by THXS. Private universities such as Azim Premji also run skill enhancement programs.
That said, employee recognition and motivation is the key to the success of any endeavour. Delhi's school teachers will likely get excited about being in the next batch of 400 teachers who go to the "world's best institute in Singapore". If this was only about imparting training, then "India's best teacher training program in Gurgaon" would also suffice.
