When people speak about automation taking away jobs, this is why I don't relate. Because these are the people I work with.
Imagine how little it takes to automate a crossing like this. How little it takes for the train to signal arrival and departure, or for the crossing to detect a train approaching, or for a signaling system to oversee it all.
But nope. Not happening. There is no dearth of technology solutions, both from the public and private sector. You think people haven't solved this over and over again in the last fifty years? And the money spent on this would easily be recovered from the efficiencies gained. Trains would arrive on time. Accidents wouldn't happen.
Even if you want to continue to keep the crossing manned and not save on wages, there is no reason to not automate.
What is AI to all this? And this isn't just the public sector. Private companies have so many jobs that are simply not needed. Not justified. It's just hilarious if you ask me.
