Ah ha ha ha. This is something my western friends find so hard to get. If you eat someone's food in India (South Asia?) you accord them respect and love. You can pick food out of another person's plate without even asking, and they will feel elated.

And I found Western society so hard to get. Like, why are all these people eating only from their own plates, when there is so much variety on the table.

Culture is so relative. We find not offering our food rude. They find us asking for their food rude.
