Calling all Evil Scientists. There is now a floating ice shelf almost 40km by 40km in size, 200 meters deep. Whoever reaches it first gets to claim it as a new country. Sure, it'll be melting away, but if you are a real Evil Scientist, that is a small problem to fix. Who wants to set up their Evil Empire on this new nation of the world?

I am chatting with Google Support. After some general chit-chat, when I ask the most basic question, the other side says:
"I am not sure I will be able to help with that as it's a little bit outside my scope of support"
Should I ask Lilia if she is an AI?

Men
Making our homes with earth
Making our pots with earth
Cleaning our streets of earth
Men. Covered in earth.
Children
Baking in the sun
Eating stale bread
Rolling in the earth
Children. Covered in earth.
At nightfall
On every traffic signal
Men and children
Covered in earth
Clutching on to each other
Bewildered
Horns screeching
Cars whizzing past
Lights dazzling
Just, trying to cross
Men. Women. Children.
Building the big city
Then, surviving it

Four men. Yellow hats. Orange vests. Standing outside a liquor store at 8pm. After what was evidently a hard day at work. Looking at each other, then looking away. One of them spoke, the others nodded. Then they all looked away again.
I wonder what they were talking about. Were they wondering if they deserved a drink after a day of selling their bodies? Were they waiting for one of them to put up the money? Were they contemplating what their families would say?
Oh. I wonder.

Me: Nishant's kid Sahil isn't going to school today. He's on strike.
Kavin: How does he not going to school change the climate?
Me: Well if the kids don't go to school then the schools have nothing to do. And the parents don't know what to do. So they all tell the government to do something about the environment, so the kids will call off the strike and go to school. And maybe they'll change their lifestyles too because the striking kids are raising awareness.
Kavin: OK. Hmm. I think I'll just go to school. Kids should go to school.
Me: Yes I'm anyway not taking you to the strike. But you should support the striking kids.
Kavin: 🤷🏽♂️

What if the whole scheme is an elaborate mathematical joke? The amount of money disbursed to each individual recipient is an imaginary number, but put together they add up to a humongous whole number on the state exchequer's balance sheet.
Did I just describe P Sainath's Everybody Loves a Good Drought in mathematical terms?

I managed to dodge 100% of the विश्वकर्मा पूजा messages on ऑफिस WhatsApp groups. No one called me out for my silence. I was torn between the religious sentiments of other people, and my own irreligious sentiments.
I don't know which is a bigger travesty. Using your tools on विश्वकर्मा पूजा, creating a swap partition on an SSD drive, or installing Windoze on a brand new computer जिसने अभी साँस भी ना लिया हो। People in my office indulge in all three.

I owned my first Cyrix MediaGX based PC while in school. In college I bought my first VIA based Mini-ITX board. I've sold (or enabled the sale of) tens of thousands of VIA processor based systems, till VIA capitulated to Intel Atom and Celeron in 2015.
Will I get be getting my hands dirty with the Zhaoxin? You bet I will. Anything Cyrix/Centaur/VIA/S3, I am always up for the challenge.
This is why I advise all engineers to regularly read the kernel changelog. All kinds of interesting news in there. https://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_5.3

Last night, in my sleep, I dreamt up a closed loop urine treatment system for a spacecraft. Pee was treated back to water, consumed by astronauts, and converted back into pee again.
When I woke up this morning, I badly needed to pee. That's when I interpreted my dream. All night my body kept signalling to my mind to go pee. My brain, instead, said "Ah, looks like pee is a problem. Let me engineer a solution."
Happy engineer's day, nerds 🤓

Wikipedia is currently under a sustained DDOS attack.
Politicians talk a lot about freedom, and protecting freedom.
I don't see a better example of freedom of information, freedom to create and share knowledge and to collaborate, a better application of the scientific method of inquiry and peer review, than Wikipedia. Yes, it has its politics and its problems, but honestly, I cannot live without Wikipedia.
Why, then, is such a large, sustained, well orchestrated and distributed attack on an important global, public resource not being considered an attack on humanity by the UN?
Who will protect our knowledge and freedom from acts of war?

Yeah! When I keep sitting in a domestic flight after it's landed, waiting for a majority of the passengers to deplane before I even get up from my seat, other passengers look at me like I'm a terrorist or creep. Like, what kind of horrible Indian doesn't trample other people right after a plane has landed or a bus has stopped.
In elevators, people will start pouring in as soon as it stops at a floor. You have no chance of getting out. So I just wait for everyone to do their thing before excusing myself and squeezing out. And then everyone gives me an annoyed look. Like, why didn't you just punch us in the face or shove us out of the way when we were rushing into the elevator? Why tell us now that you had to leave?
So yeah, this has zero chance of ever happening in our country.

Kavin: I need to write about the extinction of the dinosaurs. What do I write?
Me: Just tell them the truth. One of the T-Rexs had too much bad meat to eat. He let out a really large fart. The resulting inferno turned them all into steak.
Kavin (laughing): Noooo, how do I begin.
Me (in a southern accent): All of the dinosaurs were killed. It was bad.
Kavin (smiling): No. I've got all the main points down. I know all the theories of why they went extinct. I've written the first line also. I need the second line.
Me: "In this write up I will try to explain to you why the dinosaurs went extinct. Even though none of our CCTV cameras were working that day, but I will try my best to describe what happened."
Kavin. Dad be serious.
Me: You know I'm not gonna tell you what to write. When you write something, I'll review it for you.
Kavin rarely needs my help with his homework. But when he does, I am really no help at all.
Edit: I have so many writers in my friends list. No one seemed to notice that what the kid has, is writer's block. It's a good thing. I mean, I know, writer's block is a bad thing. But it's good that he wants to captivate his audience from the first line itself.

And then I realised. If I turn down free food and free booze, am I even Indian any more? What if they NRC me out of the country for this travesty 😂
So? Should I stay or should I go?
Update: Woke up this morning with an upset stomach. I thought I'll only have the zucchini salad, but they ran out of it before I could get a refill. So I had other, spicy things. Damn. Regrets.

Why is the Indian manufacturing industry sleeping? What is MeitY doing?
In all fairness, the government did announce 100% FDI in contract manufacturing without prior approval. Not sure if that is a good thing for Indian companies or workers. But it will definitely interest those contract firms fleeing China. Since India is also a big domestic market (compared to Vietnam etc) it makes complete sense to assemble electronics here.
But can we up our game and move from mere assembly to higher value addition? Can more bits of the supply chain move here? Touchscreens? Panels? PCBA?

Issifu Moro <ismorogh@gmail.com> is looking for a business partner in India, if you're interested (and have no ethics and easily fall for scams) 😂🤣🤑
Dear Sir,
I found that you’re established in India and I would like to inform t about this business opportunity available in India which we both can benefit from mutually.
The Company I work with is handling the procurement of certain Synthetic Essential Oil named Carolis Vegae Oil- Premium Plus but since the death of the former Supplier, Ashok Sateyam Gopal in August, 2018. The Buyer was in China last December but couldn't get the same quality as offered by this Indian manufacturer.
I'm the Chemist who certifies Product quality for the buyer and I’ve been working hard on this opportunity until now that I’ve finally gotten contacts of the Indian manufacturers where Gopal buys from. When I tried to contact them I was told that they sell only to local Indian market, however I discovered that their rates at $5,970 per liter is far below the standard international rates at $9,400 per liter and this is why I decided to find an Indian who can handle the transaction for our mutual benefits as I'll explain below.
THE PLAN:
#1. I will give you the contacts of both the Indian source and the buyer group coordinator so that you can start new contract with buyer for the rest of the Projects. I want you as Indian to act as Supplier so that you can buy from the same local source whose products are trusted by the buyer and then supply at the international rates on Ex-Works terms.
#2. Since it's the same cost in China, you will make your offer plain so that buyer comes to India and handle their shipments, yours will just be to buy from source and supply to us right there in India without traveling or worrying about exportation.
#3. Since you and I will be working together, you don’t have to worry about heavy investments, so you will only need to procure few quantities which you’ll show us/buyer on arrival as proof of Product and then insist on advance payment which I will also backup after verifying the quality of the quantity you provided. You can clearly see the profits margin in the price differences, so let's take advantage of the opportunity and make legitimate profits.
#4. Business Volume: the required quantity is about 500liters or more depending on your negotiation with the buyer.
#5. Legal/Regulatory Compliance: This Product is 100% legal globally and the HS Code in India is: 33029012.
Please understand that you must not disclose your connection with me to avoid anyone noticing my direct involvement with you. I want 30% of the excess profit as my commission after each successful transaction. Once we arrive in India, you and I will be able to meet separately to discuss how you'll give my commission because I intend to use it to import Children’s Wears and machinery for making Sachet /table water and Toilet rolls.
Your timely response will be highly appreciated.
Best Regards,

In order to study CSP (Content Security Policy), I implemented it on https://www.thinvent.in
After a lot of tweaking and tinkering, I was able to make it work. I then used uriports.com to keep track of CSP violations. Here are some URLs that were blocked and their source JS files.
URL: https://gjtrack.ucweb.com/collect?uc_param_str=*<=*&appid=*&e_c=*&pg=*&jsver=*&domain=*&slotId=*&e_a=*&_t_=*
URL: https://plugin.ucads.ucweb.com/api/mediation/info?uc_param_str=*&slotId=*&jsver=*&__t=*
JS: https://ucads-cdn.ucweb.com/ltjs/3.3.0/ltjs.js
FRAME: https://ucads-cdn.ucweb.com:1:20895
For a moment I thought thinvent.in had been compromised. Then I noticed that the UA in 100% of these reports was "UC Browser (Android)". So UC Browser, that somehow touts itself as a secure browser, is inserting JS and iFrames into web pages, then using pixels to track what people are viewing. How sinister is that?
The comic thing is that while the browser is up to these shenanigans, it is simultaneously also religiously submitting all CSP reports with its own violations to website owners. Sweet.
I learn something new today. If you have a website of any meaning, you should implement CSP and HSTS to prevent such man in the middle attacks. On thinvent.in I am using CSP to block yoast.com from gathering data from our visitor's browsers.
A note on demographics: I see that most visitors with the UC Browser were coming to JTBS pages. This means they are unemployed or self employed, and looking for self employment.
