My grandparents were cousins - it was very common then to marry your cousin - ur mother's brother's daughter or ur father's sister's daughter (similarly for girls) - in a joint family. Primarily done to keep property within the family. In TN and parts of Ktaka and AP there is an additional tradition of girls marrying their mother's brother. Was common when people had 8-9 kids and the daughter of the oldest child was around the same age as her mother's youngest brother. These practices have declined over the years but are still practiced by many. Hi
