Well, if you have a socio economic system that completely dehumanises anyone who is less fortunate, that keeps most people at the brink of penury, and you refuse to ask your government to fix things, then individuals will need to keep coming up with band aid solutions through Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, Good Harvest and what not.
