Of the 50 men who fired into the unarmed crowd at the Jalianwala Bagh, many came from 9th Gorkha Rifles. Headquartered in Varanasi, this regiment still forms a part of the Indian Army, and has a "proud" heritage.

The rest of the regiments that contributed men for the massacre, ended up in Pakistan, and are now part of the Pakistani army.

The more we think that we are different from each other, the more we turn out to be same. We share the same lineage from British rule. Our armies, our police, our penal codes, our bureaucracy. Our desire to set people and things on fire and watch them burn.
