What if the Railways has realised that the passenger business is too much bother. It anyway loses money on it. And it creates a lot of hassles also. Who wants to deal with individual customers anyways?

This theory would make sense if the Railways is doubling down on freight traffic. The tracks are empty; no need to prioritise those express trains. Lakhs of employees who usually deal with passengers, such as booking clerks and TTs, are available for other work.

Is there a renewed focus on parcel and freight? Have the revenues gone up? I suppose it is hard to track an increase in market segment share when the entire economy is in slide.
