Genuine question: How are the farm protests linked to environmentalism?

As far as I know, farmers have asked for fines on crop burning to be reversed. And in all these laws, the government has not proposed any mechanism to procure farm waste and prevent it from being burnt.

How does contract farming or industrial farming, of the scale done in the US and Canada, negatively impact the environment. After all, it's not like the small farmers currently protesting are practicing organic farming.
