a copy of my facebook feed, circa July 2026.

Turns out I am a beta tester for Airtel's VoWiFi service. I was on a call just now, which terminated ungracefully with the other party getting the voice message: "Your call could not be completed due to a congestion in the network"

If I walk around and my phone migrates from one AP or SSID to another, VoWiFi barfs.

Us, riding an auto through Varanasi.

Kavin: What is the difference between a village and a city?

Me: Hmm. I suppose it is the population.

Kavin: No. It has to be more.

The price we pay for using public transport is harassment by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation security officials. Tried to board the last Yellow line from NDLS to HUDA with two kids. Instead of trying to help us or guide us as we rushed, the security officials shouted at us, ganged up and ridiculed us, and laughed at us.

The CISF find pride in bullying and laughing at kids who are disoriented in an unfamiliar space. Keep it up, men in uniform.

Voice over WiFi is finally here in India. Seeing VoWiFi on my Airtel connection. At least a dozen years too late, but better late than never. This will solve phone signal issues in basements and remote areas, and enable so many use cases.

This is phenomenally better than VoIP apps, because both ends don't need an intelligent terminal, data connectivity, or subscription to the same app. One end can be a simple landline or feature phone. After HD calling, this is another edge that VoIP apps just lost.

The ideal scenario would be telcos giving out VoIP phone connections (SIP accounts and trunks). Nevertheless, VoWiFi solves a lot of pain points.

Thoroughly enjoying our journey on Train 18. We've seen a peak of 132kmph, that too on an upward incline! The ride is smooth, and the facilities and design are as good as any long distance train in the US and Japan. The service staff is meh, the passengers are a disaster (throwing garbage around, talking loudly, putting their feet up everywhere, generally being a nuisance to service staff and copassengers).

We need many more Train 18s, instead of one expensive bullet train. This is made in India, made for India technology that already works. These trains run on our existing broad gauge tracks without any modification.

The project is currently threatened by a vigilance enquiry that is sure to find nothing, because all tenders were awarded to L1 bidders. However, all production is currently stopped, and the process of the enquiry is sure to kill off all enthusiasm at the ICF, irrespective of the actual outcome.

I'm pretty sure 132kmph might be my personal land speed record.

https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/delhi-weather-air-quality-poor-update-ncr-noida-aqi-stubble-temperature-1625286-2019-12-05

No stubble burning anywhere. Yet AQI is rising. All governments are busy blaming each other. Transportation, construction and waste burning continue unchecked, causing most of the pollution.
The messaging here is so confused.

If stubble burning is causing the pollution in Delhi, then how will reducing vehicular traffic help?

If reducing private motorised vehicles will help reduce pollution in Delhi, then why is odd even not carried out all through the year? Yes, pollution is exceptionally high in crop season. But its not like Delhi's air is below dangerous levels in any month of the year. The government is investing heavily in public transport. It should simultaneously disincentivise private vehicles in more ways than just odd even.

Less politicking, more work please. You are pointing three fingers at Punjab, Haryana, UP. But your thumb is pointing down at your own vehicles. Delhi is the state with the highest population density in India - ideal for high utilisation of public transport. And yet, it is also the state with the fourth highest number of vehicles per capita. The current government may have inherited this problem. But if it doesn't even acknowledge this problem then how will it be fixed?

The AQI was Satisfactory today. It was last this good in September. Perhaps in celebration, a lot of people are bursting crackers.

Do we know why people are bursting crackers today? What is wrong with these people?
