These pictures of the lesser yellownape were taken at what is called a "hide". After all the traipsing through rainy Uttarakhand forests with leeches and bugs harassing us, we thought it would be nice to just sit back and have the birds come to us.
A hide operates by offering food to birds. The birds flock to the food and you can observe them from up close. Its what we do in our backyards all the time, and think nothing of. But when you do it commercially, next to a forest, you risk turning wild birds into feral ones.
Not an activity I'd indulge in again any time soon. Even though the food offered was just fruit and बाजरा.
Back in 2013, Srikrishna was working for a group that was promoting entrepreneurs. He realised that I know a thing or two about doing business with the government/PSUs, and had me interviewed. I didn't make much of it then.
Earlier today, while speaking to a team of entrepreneurs, I realised that there is indeed so much that I and my team know about selling to the government, scaling a business, and building a channel.
So if you or someone you know could use our advice or connections, we would be delighted to help. Times are tough. We only weathered FY 2020-2021 because of government business. Perhaps you too have something that the government or its undertakings need to buy.
Anything that generates manufacturing jobs and intellectual property in India - I'm happy to bend over backwards to help.
An update on the oxygen concentrator project we were working on:
1. We've been important and selling OCs. Demand is flagging as the second wave abates (which is good news). We still have 20 pieces of 5lpm OCs, in case anyone you know wants one.
2. The project to build our own OC has run into trouble, since we haven't been able to source two key components - oil free noiseless compressors and Zeolite. It hasn't helped that anyone who touches this project seems to end up with sick parents. We even received a generous grant to work on this project, but...
3. Meanwhile, we've collaborated with a manufacturer who has designed and built an OC in India. We are going to help market and sell their product to the government market. Even though individual and private hospital demand will be low till a third wave occurs (let's hope not), public healthcare is under pressure to stay prepared.
So if you guys are looking for 5, 10 and 20 lpm machines that are made in India and come with one or three years of warranty and support, get in touch with me 👍🏽
In case you wish to travel to the mountains close to Delhi, here is what you need to know: https://www.indiatoday.in/travel/story/planning-a-trip-to-himachal-uttarakhand-here-s-all-you-need-to-know-about-travel-restrictions-guidelines-1813387-2021-06-10
You do not need an RTPCR negative report, or an epass, to visit Himachal. Shops and hotels are open.
Uttarakhand requires an RTPCR negative report, advance confirmed reservation at a homestay/hotel, and an epass. Markets and cafés are closed; you can only eat what your homestay cook serves you.
If you choose to travel, stay quarantined for a week. You can always step out for solitary walks. But partying, drinking, loud music, dancing with other guests is ruled out (I hope it stays that way forever).
Room rates are allegedly less than half the usual prices.
