Gurgaon friends, do plan to attend @[1005490575:2048:Ankit]'s performance. He has woven his tales after years of traveling and living with the khanabadosh communities of India. He will have you and your children mesmerised from the very first word.
This is the lovely work that our lovely @[100000572637590:2048:Sumitra] Akka does. So proud. Blessed to have had a chance to know her in this life.

Heh heh. I've used her favourite word twice ☺️ ❤️
Uber driver: You're lucky to have Internet here in Gurgaon and Faridabad. Internet connectivity has been off in the rest of Haryana for three days now. I was in the middle of a ride and my connection was lost. I had to call up Uber to terminate the ride, otherwise they'd have kept charging the customer. If the Internet doesn't work on your phone, then you can't call an Uber, but you just take an auto instead. For us, if the Internet doesn't work, we have to sit at home.

Me: So it isn't just white collar workers any more. If the net stops, a lot of the labour force is also rendered jobless these days. Wow! Didn't think of that.
Google Maps is finally asking the right question. I've been demanding this for five years.

For those not from round here: Indian bike riders frequently take mud roads or disallowed paths (such as pedestrian walkways). Google Maps learns these routes from bikers and tries to send cars along the same routes.

Which is not to say that car drivers in India don't violate traffic rules. But differentiating between two and four wheeler traffic will greatly improve the Maps product.
Who knew कि इतने बुरे दिन आएँगे कि Congress के भी अच्छे दिन आ जाएँगे 😂
Will we now also have the right to eat whatever we like in the privacy of our homes?

Or is that too long a leap of faith 🤔

This is for everyone who has been offended/upset by me refusing to passive smoke with them. If I've refused to hang around and converse with you while you smoke, or refused to enter a room or car because it's recently been smoked in it, this is why. Smoking kills. Passive smoking kills just as badly.

Sorry not sorry.
I've survived everything I've encountered in life. I have a 100% survival rate. I'm nailing it.

Please help us recruit a suitable candidate. I'd appreciate it if you can share this post, and refer your friends.
I'm at the mall and they're playing Ice Ice Baby so I'm dancing in the elevator and life is good. But my kids are like, "We're not here with this guy."

When you're a comedian not a shayar, but you start cueing your inner Gulzar 😁

I suppose everyone who has loved and lost, has their own version of Mera Kuch Samaan inside of them. Some are magicians with words, some are not. मग़र ख़याल तो है. और अलमारी में सामान भी है.
As a seller on Amazon, we get asked questions about the products we sell. Here is one that came in today about a monitor:

"Can it work as a computer"

And here we go again. I've started receiving Facebook password recovery emails. Any time I post publicly on politics, someone out there starts hammering at my account!

Imagine what it would do to my DevOps/InfoSec street cred if the attacker actually got through 😂
As I walk back home from work for lunch, I see cycles parked outside. And I say to myself, "Hmm, so the kids have visitors."
Hello All! Thinvent is looking for a field engineer in Bangalore. We need a motivated person with good communication skills, who can learn on the job, is hardworking and willing to travel around Bangalore/Karnataka.

This is an immediate opening. A diploma in hardware maintenance is preferred. However, qualification isn't as important in this role as a willingness to learn and do.

We also have the same opening in Gorakhpur and Kathmandu.

Please refer suitable candidates to us. Thanks.
Stories Google suggests I read:

How the Indian Air Force will combat a Chinese threat.

How Kim's army compares to Trump's.

What kind of idiots have we handed over the job of running this world?

You should read this. Some key takeaways:

1. Producing energy costs lives; and not just in the developing world.

2. Regulation works; developed country losses to energy production are <10% of developing country losses.

3. Nuclear is amazingly safe if done right (read, regulation).

India's largest nuclear power plant, coming up in Kudankulam, is supposedly Gen III. It could be safe, but who knows? Public trust in government regulatory authorities is so low (and rightly so) that there is no way to be sure that all the safety protocols touted by the authorities have actually been implemented. Indian regulations around nuclear fuel mining, processing and disposable are so pathetic that they cost many lives every year (which we refuse to count).

Yes, solar costs lives too. Panels don't magically drop from the sky. The materials used in solar panel production have lifecycles that involve toxics (most panels have an aluminium frame; bauxite mining is dangerous business). Folks fall off rooftops installing panels. Nuclear energy is dense. When you're installing solar panels over square kilometers to compete with one reactor, accidents are bound to happen.

Besides, solar is new. We haven't even begun to meaningfully process spent solar panels. We don't do a good job managing spent fuel. Let's hope we build capacity to manage the tons of solar panel waste generated annually once solar is mainstream.
The "Don't Worry, Be Happy" music video casts Robin Williams in a strong anti suicide message. If only he'd seen the video more often.

Trivia: the message "don't worry, be happy" comes from Meher Baba, an Indian mystic of Parsi descent who stayed maun (mute) for a majority of his life.

This was the first a capella song to top Billboard.
Me: This guy's name is Jerry Seinfeld in real life and in this show. The show's name is Seinfeld and it's made by him.

Kavin: Aaaand there is a company named Seinfeld.

Me Nope, there isn't.

Kavin: Yes there is. (walks away)

Me: (starts posting this on Facebook for no reason at all).

Kavin: (comes back) It's a food company. Put it there.
Amazon Prime has Sienfeld with subtitles in four Indian languages! Like, meaningful subtitles, not machine generated ones.

Amazon is going after the Indian market like nobody's business. And it's checking off all the right tickboxes.
Abstract: Venturing outdoors may become deadly across wide swaths of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh by the end of the century as climate change drives heat and humidity to new extremes, according to a new study. These conditions could affect up to a third of the people living throughout the Indo-Gangetic Plain unless the global community ramps up efforts to rein in climate-warming carbon emissions. Today, that vast region is home to some 1.5 billion people. While most climate studies have been based on temperature projections, this one - published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances - is somewhat unique in also considering humidity as well as the body's ability to cool down in response. Most of those at risk in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are poor farmworkers or outdoor construction laborers. They are unlikely to have air conditioners - up to 25 percent in of India's population still has no access to electricity. In some areas that have been deforested for industry or agriculture, they may not even have very much shade.
Banff, five years ago. Kavin recalls nothing. Nilay remembers everything from the trip. What a difference an age gap of two years makes (this is for all those who assume they are twins).
If you've been looking for art to decorate your walls, please consider these beautiful prints. They support the very important cause of furthering experiential education in India.
We protect what we value. Why do we not value thousands of lives the way we value our cultural heritage?
Headline. So. Confusing. 😂

Interestingly, they weren't booked for making fake medicines. They were booked for copyright and trademark violations. Because of course.

Whatte lovely morning this is going to be after reading such amusing news.
दिल्लीवालों, this you cannot miss.

@[610191751:2048:Bindhumalini], Vasu, can't wait to meet you guys again. The link on the event page isn't working. Is there another way to RSVP? Also, is the event child friendly? Kavin and Nilay will obviously want to come... although it is a school night.
Is this veiled commentary on the BMC silencing its critics? Look how he snuck in the rejection of RTI replies! Or is Mr. Mathrubootham finally turning over a new leaf? We must wait and watch...
I declare all Pastafarians heretics! They must revert to orthodox Teapotism forthwith. All roadside eateries must sell spaghetti with meatballs prominently, to show these Pastafarians their place.
In the boy's room at the kids' school...

Seven year old kid: Which class are you in?

Me (surprised): Who, me? (even though we are the only two people in there)

Kid: Yes, you.

Me: I'm a parent.

Kid (surprised): Really?

Such a wonderful kid. What a complement. Whatte happiness.
Nilay: Kavin play Justin Bieber's version of Despacito.

Kavin (the DJ for this car ride): Bieber can't sing Despacito.

Nilay (incredulously): Why?

Kavin: It's not in English.

Nilay: Why can't Bieber sing in a different language?

Kavin: He can't. He just can't.

Kavin is clearly not a Belieber.
Please read. Then stop throwing away your unused medicines and start donating them at a nearby dispensary.
