Recruitment rates don't seem to be inversely related to GDP. Seems more like a recruiter preference for hill state folks. Would be interesting to also see how many people apply per capita per state - this is data of people accepted.

Rafi MosaddiqueMostly, the communities & regiments which remained loyal to British during the 1857 uprising were given a preference in recruitment later on by the British and that legacy was inherited by the Indian army from its predecessor. Hide
