Can't imagine what Modi is going through in the current circumstances.

A vast majority of Indian military hardware is Russian, or Russian derived/inspired. Same goes for our space and nuclear programs. I'm sure we have significant independence now in terms of parts and repairability. But our dependence on Russia does go far beyond cheap oil and gas. And Russia is getting sucked deeper into a war it cannot win.

Modi didn't even make these choices. Nobody in his party made these choices. And Russia, a nation friendly to us when we were born and chose to be non aligned, wasn't even the wrong choice. I'd also have chosen Russia over the US for military and technology supplies back then.

Russia is still friendly to us. But just how behind it is in terms of technology is for everyone to see.

Which wouldn't be a problem, really. If it weren't for neighbours breathing down our backs. Honestly, why should any economy sink so much money into the military industrial complex like America does. But America does it. And then it arms Pakistan. And now China is investing so much in military hardware.

Sigh. Some days it is just wise to not bother checking the news at all.
