I don't follow cricket. I'm reading posts/rumours that:

1. Virat was instrumental in India winning today's match.

2. He supported the farmer agitation, and criticised the incidents at Hathras.

3. He was fired from his captaincy, and cheap jokes were cracked about his wife, because of (2) above.

Can one of you verify these facts?

How do y'all sports lovers reconcile the facts that our leading sportspeople are being chastised for their political views?

Gouri ChughPeople are chastised for their political views. Would you be able to tolerate a celebrity or sportsperson who is right leaning? Anyway, Kohli's wife has produced a couple of shows that put the Sanatan Dharm in bad light. Kohli also requested people not to burn crackers on Diwali in a public message, which offended the religious sentiments of a certain group. His captaincy was taken away for different reason. But, when you are Virat Kohli, whom even the opposition team looks upto, you can't help but praise him for his knock. (P.S. I don't follow cricket too.) Hide
Hemant AdhikariPretty sure it was mostly because he had been out of form (vs his own high standards)- had not scored a century from Nov 2019, across 18 tests, 23 ODIs, another bunch of T20s. But he kept his position in team through the dip in form. So I guess the story is to congratulate India team management for rightfully supporting a legendary player through a tough phase in his career. Hide
