A few years ago, I brashly disclosed my mobile number to Outlook when subscribing to their magazine. The subscription expired soon, thankfully, and then the real ordeal began. In the first week of every month, I get calls from unknown cellphone numbers, more than once a day, asking me to resubscribe to Outlook. No amount of pleading and threatening makes them remove my number from their database. The concept of a DNC list is unknown to these callers.
This post isn't about where these people call from. It's about who calls. From their voices you can make out they are the creme of our educational system. Impeccable pronunciation, persuasive, full of zeal. Our best people are wasting their best time doing soul crushing internships, 15 days at a time, making sales calls.
I just got two consecutive calls from +918429995394. The girl at the other end had a virtue that is in very short supply these days - decency. She empathised with my situation. She told me she'd ask someone to remove me, but admitted that as an intern she had no pull to ensure the harassment would actually end. But she cared. So if you need a well-spoken intern/employee who cares for fellow humans, call her now and put her out of her misery.
