My Masters thesis was on stateless computers. I then built a business on server based computing. Stateless computing is now so unknown a concept, even Google and Wikipedia don't know much about it. But good computer science concepts have a way of resurrecting themselves after a few decades.
The era of information and compute resources being scattered all over an enterprise, literally being geographically dispersed over the physical expanse of an organisation - those days are seriously numbered. People are getting fed up of losing data and productivity to cyberattacks or user stupidity.

Most people are stupid. And when under stress, even the smartest humans behave like idiots. We can't be trusted with data on our person. The sooner we move information to centralised repositories that can be encrypted and defended by professionals, the better life will be for everybody.
