There are a lot of women at the Shaheen Bagh protest. I can't seem to overemphasise that.

They are surrounded by men. The impression you get is that the whole event is organised by the men. They are busy bringing in food, managing crowds, laying carpets. But you hang around long enough and see through the "just look busy and important" drama.

There is nothing to organise. Here are a bunch of women sitting in the middle of the road, wiping their children's noses, looking likes bosses, and generally completely self sufficient. The men are simply entertaining guests like me with tea, biscuits and biryani - because the women aren't around to do it.
