Elder son has outgrown bicycle (yet again). Need guidance on buying adult cycle. What's with these new hybrid cycles? Can I go wrong with a BSA Hercules with front suspension and Shimano gears - the default choice two decades ago? Has cycle tech really changed that much since?

[ BSA Photon from TI Cycles, my trusted steed in college, still costs just ₹6,500 tax paid. Still proudly made entirely in India. But no disk brakes, gears or suspension. Need to look at the newer BSA sub-brands for that. ]
