I was going through Mary Meeker's annual report and somewhere in the middle (slide 85), I was disgusted. GDP/topline growth driven development is as meaningless as religion. And it is being pursued like religion. We want to use every technology, every resource at our disposal to drive sales. Sales of anything at all. The best engineering and business minds of our times are busy convincing, conniving us into buying more and more.

We build television, telephony, the Internet. Search engines and smartphones. We try to connect people, bring them together. And eventually, everything merely becomes a channel for advertising and sales. I know, I know, most business models depend on ads and referrals for revenue. Do we need better business models, in that case?
