Hong Kong defied all my preconceived notions.
100 channels on the hotel TV, and the only foreign language channel? Star World from India. Question for the receptionist in the morning, "Is Bollywood big in Taiwan, or do you get a lot of homesick Indians?"
Actually I can't tell Hiragana from Chinese, so a couple of those channels could be Japanese (just in case someone decides to go pedantic over an FB post).
Spent an eventful year understanding what makes technology entrepreneurship work in the SF Bay Area. Next stop, Neihu and New Taipei.

Who wants a postcard? Send me your complete postal address, and I'll send you a postcard or letter with USA philatelic stamps. I bought a bunch for my kids but they didn't use it, so now they're yours.
Found the perfect solution for organising all my photos. Shotwell http://yorba.org/shotwell/ with its awesome deduping powers! And Dropbox http://db.tt/9UM5KESp for cloud storage. Dropbox has nifty Linux daemons that lets me sync my photo album across all my Linux boxes, without being logged into the GUI console.

I thought I knew the history of UNIX rather well, and then I read this article. A must read for anyone who earns their bread coding on *NIX.
